Civil War Dance Society
Brief Background of our Organization
Civil War Dance Society (CWDS) was formed in 2000. Initial members included Civil War living historians to promote Civil War dancing in the mid-Atlantic states (Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia). Since its founding by Kurt Grauf, CWDS has grown in size. There is no cost to join our organization. This website is maintained by Kurt Grauf. If you have comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact Kurt Grauf. Thank you for your interest in our organization.
Since the creation of the CWDS, the organization has grown
and have performed dozens of dances through the mid-Atlantic region.
In the Spring of 2004 by the request of the members, two chapter groups were born:
for the
Northern States
(Susquehanna Dance Society)
and their
Southern counterparts
(Chesapeake Dance Society).
Both will still function together as the
Civil War Dance Society. There
is a small fee for the dance master to conduct the dance. Any
informal dance practice or formal balls can be arranged. The
dance master is willing to travel to any event providing expenses
are reimbursed. Please contract Kurt Grauf for specific
details.
CWDS
is committed in preserving
American History.
We proud ourselves as being not only
performers, but as
living historians.
That simply means we are reenactors, and we are
involved in reenactments and/or living history presentations.
Many of our members are involved in military groups or other
civilian reenactment organizations. One does not need to belong to another
military organization to become a member of our organization. Our motto is simply this:
We love studying American History and enjoy sharing our knowledge and experience with others.
Civil
War Dance Society's sole purpose is to have everyone experience the excitement and gracefulness of
Victorian Era dancing.
See the calendar of events for local
groups dances and workshops. If you are hosting a dance, and you wish to have it
displayed on this site, send information to the webmaster. Come
on out and have some fun!
